If you catch someone dumping illegally:
  • Maintain a low profile – don’t contact the dumpers yourselves.
  • Report any illegal dumping to either the Public Works Department at 510-231-3043 or the Police Department at 9-1-1 for active dumping.

Why Report Illegal Dumping?
Illegal dumping is dumping of any waste, whether it is oil, furniture, appliances, trash, litter or landscaping cuttings, etc., upon any public right-of-way or private property, without consent of the owner and/or the City of Richmond.

If illegal dumping problems are not reported the problem often grows.  Once a pile begins, it often seems to encourage other people to pile on additional waste. Hazardous material such household products (batteries, oil, paint, and antifreeze), commercial and industrial items and fluids, and other regulated or illegal substances create a dangerous environment and pollute our very near neighbor, the San Pablo Bay.

Please do your part help the Code Enforcement Unit to prevent, deter, and report illegal dumping in the City of Richmond.
