Richmond ESC's Volunteer Recognition Ceremony is an opportunity to recognize and highlight volunteerism and community service within the City of Richmond. The ceremony takes place each year in April.
Volunteer and Awards Recognition Ceremony
Individuals, organizations and corporations are eligible to apply.
The selection will be made by a panel of judges, who will consider the following criteria:
- exemplify the spirit of community service
- make an outstanding contribution to the community through volunteer service
- demonstrate a commitment to service, creativity, cooperation, and/or leadership
- serve as a role model for others in their community
- inspire others to engage in volunteer service
- receive no compensation for their activities
A Distinguished Volunteer Service Award is awarded in each category to the community member with a demonstrated commitment to volunteerism.
Community Beautification Award
The Community Beautification Award will recognize individuals, organizations or a group that has inspired, supported, improved and committed time to the enhancement and the appearance of properties visible from public areas within the City of Richmond.
Eligible improvements could include: urban gardening, clean-ups, streetscapes, rehabilitation of an area or building.
Community Arts Award
The Arts Awards recognizes individuals, organizations, and corporations that have made outstanding volunteer contributions to the arts in Richmond.
Eligible recipients include: performing/fine arts, arts administration, arts instruction.
Community Public Safety
The Community Public Safety Award recognizes individuals, organizations, and corporation that has made outstanding volunteer contributions that promote public safety and have encouraged and developed partnerships in building safer, stronger communities.
The Community Health and Wellness Award recognizes individuals, organizations, corporations, groups, healthcare providers, workers and nonprofits who have provided and created innovative volunteer programs or services for health and wellness.
Eligible health and wellness programs include: athletics, nutrition, family financial well-being, health screening and prevention, exercise programs.
Community Education Award
The Community Education Awards celebrates the efforts of recognizes individuals, organizations, corporations, groups that are actively helping children and young people to become positive members of their communities.
Eligible education programs include: tutoring, college readiness, early childhood education, academic afterschool program.
Community Youth Award
The Community Youth Award recognizes youths, between the ages of 12 to 21, who have demonstrated an exemplary commitment to service in their communities, neighborhoods or schools.
Eligible youth service include: health and wellness, community beautification, education, public safety.
Excellence in Community Service Award
The Excellence in Community Service Award will recognize an individual who demonstrates an exemplary commitment to service to the community. This commitment should be demonstrated through the development or participation in programs that go well beyond the traditional service role of their profession or commitment to the Richmond community.
