Alex Knox is a Richmond native and served as the lead coordinator for the Tom Butt for Mayor campaign. He is half Hispanic and fluent in Spanish and intermediate German. He graduated from Guilford College with a BA in Political Science. While in school he served as a steering committee member of the student government and was a key organizer for an annual college access conference geared towards Latino high school students.In the summer of '09 he worked as an intern at former Congressman George Miller's D.C. office. Alex was recently elected as an Assembly District Delegate to the CA Democratic Party as an advocate for increased civic engagement from youth and in emerging populations.

Housing Policy, Branding and Marketing Initiative, Land Use and Development, Environmental Sustainability, LGBTQ and Gender Identity issues, Point Molate Development, Community Events and Volunteer opportunities.

Christopher Whitmore
Director of Policy and Strategy

Christopher grew up in Richmond and graduated from Webster University in 2014 with a bachelor's degree in Political Science w/ Emphasis in Public Law. Prior to joining the Mayor's staff in 2016, Christopher served as Congressman Mark DeSaulnier's Outreach Coordinator for West Contra Costa County. Christopher also worked as an intern for Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia and for United States Senator Bill Nelson while living in Washington, D.C as a Congressional Fellow through the National Student Leadership Forum.

Public safety, transportation, race and social equity, economic development, workforce development, constituent services, and trails.

Irene Perdomo
Director of Projects and Programs

Irene Perdomo is a Richmond native and Marine Corps veteran, having served between 2006 and 2017. She joined the Mayor's Office in 2015 as an intern while pursing a bachelor's degree in Urban Studies and Planning at San Francisco State University.

Roles and Responsibilities:

Immigration, education, constituent services, boards and commissions, food policy, and veterans support. 

Sequoia Erasmus
Director of Community Engagement

Sequoia is proud to serve her Richmond community and is passionate about making Richmond a better place to live, work and grow. As a champion for community health, nature, grassroots leadership development, and safer cities, Sequoia has worked for 10 years within wide variety of Richmond initiatives and organizations. Before she joined the Mayor's Office, Sequoia worked as a Health Educator within the Community Wellness and Prevention Program at Contra Costa Health Services, developed troops in underserved areas of Contra Costa County with the Girl Scouts of Northern California, served as a recreation leader with the East Bay Regional Parks District, and founded and directed the Natural Discoveries Nature Education Programs.

Community engagement and events, constituent services, homelessness, bicycle and pedestrian issues, and open space.
