Trash Capture Devices

March 2021 Update

To reduce the amount of trash and pollutants entering the bay and to comply with State stormwater regulations, the City of Richmond will be installing an additional hydrodynamic separator trash capture device on Cutting Blvd near South 3rd Street. The device will clean the surface runoff before reaching the bay. Because this drainage area include part of Interstate 580, Caltrans has provided the $1.3 million needed for design and construction.

Construction begins March 2021 and will require lane closures on Cutting Blvd for the duration of the project, until the end of April or early May 2021. Due to an accelerated schedule, there may be extended work hours. See traffic control map at right.

The City and our contractor Veolia Water will be responsible for maintenance and the periodic cleaning and removal of the collected debris. Existing trash capture devices are located on South 8th St near Hoffman Blvd, near the intersection of Marina Bay Pkwy and Regatta Blvd, and at the top of the Meeker Ditch on Regatta Blvd.
