Code Enforcement, a division of Patrol Services Bureau is responsible for enforcing codes which address health and safety issues, including regulations related to rubbish, debris attractive nuisances, removal of vegetation, zoning and inoperable vehicles on private property.

Enforcement taken proactively and in response to requests for action requested by citizens. These services help to improve and stabilize neighborhood, protect property values and promotes a healthier and safer environment.

The Richmond City Council has adopted City codes (laws) specifically designed to address blight, nuisances, in an effort to maintain a clean environment for all citizens in our community. The City of Richmond does this by working in partnership with the people of Richmond.

Our Mission
Is to serve the public interest with integrity in the areas of health and safety of the city's residents, industry, and business while promoting quality residential and community development by reinforcing civic responsibility, education, and enforcement of the Richmond City Code.

Is to strive as a Code Enforcement team to optimize all available resources in order to foster positive relationships within the City of Richmond's community residents, business and industry. This will be accomplished by voluntary compliance through various methodologies of outreach, liaison opportunities, clearly defined code standards and appropriate enforcement actions. Code Enforcement's heritage for serving the public will continue with dignity, respect, high professional standards and a collaborative spirit to maintain the health, safety and livability of the community. We will embrace cooperation with neighborhood organizations and profession businesses to promote industry standards for quality development through effective municipal services.
