Plan Retrieval Information

Mandatory Procedures for Applying for Plan Retrievals
  1. Fill out a Permit Application requesting plan retrieval.
  2. Indicate whether you are the property owner, the contractor, an engineer / architect, or
  3. an agent / tenant. Include your address, phone number, and email address, if available.
  4. Ensure, in coordination with a Permit Technician, whether the requested plans should be the original construction plans, or plans for a later addition to the original structure.
  5. Indicate whether you are viewing the plans over the counter, or requesting copies.
  6. Fill out a Declaration in Support of Request for Official Copy of Building Plans
  7. if requesting copies of the plans.
  8. Pay the associated fee. Credit cards, checks, or cash are accepted forms of payment.

Copy Facility Coordination and Information
  • Plans are copied by Richmond Blue Print (510-234-2632) at 2558 MacDonald Avenue, Richmond, CA 94804. This is a private business; thus, an additional fee will be charged.
  • You will need to coordinate with Richmond Blue Print. Richmond Blue Print requires payment for copying at the time the copies are picked up.

Plan Retrieval Processing Time
Plan retrieval requests are given a minimum of five business days.
For copies, the coordination, due to copyright matters, will be given an additional five  business days to include delivery of the original documents to the copying facility.
When the plans are ready for pick-up, you will be notified by the third-party copy facility.

Notification of Non-Retrievable Plans
Building plans are maintained as a courtesy for the public. Certain types of plans are not required to be kept; therefore, some plans cannot be retrieved.

Within two weeks of application, we will send you a notification letter outlining the steps taken to retrieve the plans if they cannot be retrieved.
