Environmental Initiatives

The City of Richmond is committed to progressive environmental action that reduces environmental impacts and makes the City of Richmond a model for the larger community.

 

Initiatives

  • Development and implementation of a Waste Reduction at Work Policy and comprehensive internal recycling program. View the Recycling Guide and FAQ.
  • Implementation of worm composting programs at various municipal buildings including City Hall and Fire Station 64. (Help is needed to run worm composting workshops and empty food scrap pails in City Hall. Contact Jennifer Ly at 621-1554 to get involved!)
  • Implementation of a Municipal Green Building Ordinance that sets green standards and requirements for new buildings.

  • Becoming a signatory to the Urban Environmental Accords, which details strategies in the impact areas of energy, waste reduction, urban design, urban nature, water, environmental health and transportation.
