Personnel and Training is an Administrative Division of the Technical and Support Services Bureau. Our duties include recruitment and hiring of new officers, reserve officers, dispatchers, civilian support staff, and police cadets. Our unit plans the testing dates, oral board examinations and physical agility tests.
The Personnel and Training Unit is responsible for developing a training plan for all members of RPD and assuring that all staff receive the high-quality training required to perform the law enforcement function in the 21st Century. It is our responsibility to maintain California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) requirements for the department. We frequently create training bulletins regarding RPD policy and procedures, legal updates, and officer safety information, as well as current trends in the law enforcement profession. Our unit is involved in recruit officer training and we serve on the Probation Review Board and the Civilian Review Board.
The department’s equipment falls within the purview of the Personnel and Training Unit. We are responsible for procuring new equipment, distributing it to the appropriate personnel, and providing any training required to operate the equipment safely and effectively.
In addition, we are responsible for managing the RPD budget which includes writing and reviewing contracts and accounting. It is expected that we will attend City Council meetings as necessary regarding budget issues.
Currently our unit consists of a lieutenant, a sergeant, two officers and two administrative staff members.
