Duties of the Poet Laureate include visiting schools to promote poetry and/or perform, attending city, library, and other public functions, and writing poetry that will be printed in a short publication to be available at the Public Library. The first official duty will be reading a poem at City Council when he or she is confirmed as the new Poet Laureate.
