All Richmond residents receive weekly solid waste services:
- Black cart for garbage
- Blue cart for recyclables
- Green cart for green waste
Service fees are determined by the size of the garbage cart. By actively recycling and composting each week and opting for a smaller garbage bin, you can divert trash from landfills and actually lower your trash bills each month!

Free Programs for Residents
Discount for Seniors or Low-Income Residents
Residents 62 years of age or older, or participants in the Pacific Gas and Electric (PG&E) California Alternate Rates for Energy (CARE) program, you may be eligible for a $5 per month rate discount. Call Republic Services for more information at, 510.262.7100.
Bulky Waste Pick-up
Residents living in single-family homes, duplexes, triplexes, or fourplexes may schedule up to 3 bulky waste pickups at no charge, each calendar year.
Call Republic Services at 510.262.7100 in advance to schedule your bulky waste pickups. Items will be collected on your next scheduled collection day when called in at least 10 workdays in advance.
Customers who exceed the number of no-charge pickups may schedule bulky item collection for a fee.
Customers may choose from the following options for each of their bulky waste pickup:
A. up to fifteen (15) 35 gal bags with a max weight of 50 lb per bag
B. Four (4) 95 gal bags with a max weight of 50 lb per bag
C. Five (5) E-Waste items
D. Up to1.8 cubic yards of uncontainerized garbage or organic waste
E. (Maximum of once per year) Large Item Pick-up which may consist of up to three (3) large items

Holiday Tree Collection
Natural holiday trees will be collected curbside for composting for a three-week period beginning December 26th each year at no charge. Trees will be picked up on your regular collection day by a different truck. Artificial and flocked trees will not be accepted. No-Cost Cart Cleaning
Starting July 1, 2025: Once every five years, customers may request a replacement of each of their carts for clean ones at no charge. Contact Republic Services for a clean cart at, 510.262.7100.
For lost, stolen, or damaged carts, please call 510.262.7100 to schedule a repair or replacement delivery.
FREE Neighborhood dumpster days for Residents (formerly "neighborhood clean-ups")
Every Richmond neighborhood receives a Neighborhood Dumpster Day. Residents in the neighborhood can dispose of unwanted waste for FREE. Curbside collection services are only available for seniors and residents with disabilities.
The City of Richmond hosts neighborhood dumpster days in partnership with Republic Services, Sims Metal, and each neighborhood's respective neighborhood council.
Events Information:
- Time: Begin at 8:00 am and end at 12:00 pm or when all dumpsters are full.
- Where: Dumpsters placed at 1- 4 locations in your neighborhood.
- When: Postcards with the dumpster locations are mailed 2-4 weeks in advance of the event. Events are held in the spring, summer, and fall. Businesses are not eligible

Curbside pickup is available for seniors and residents with disabilities only:
Eligible residents must contact the Abatement Division to request this service before 12:00 pm on the Wednesday prior to the dumpster day. Curbside pickup will take place on the Friday prior to the dumpster day from 8:00 am to 2:30 pm. Pickups are limited to no more than one pickup truckload per eligible household. Identification will be checked at the time of pickup.

The West County Hazardous Waste, located at 101 Pittsburg Ave, will accept most of the above Prohibited Items at no cost for Richmond residents.
No-Cost On-Premise Carry-Out Service
Households where none of the occupants are physically able to move carts to the curb for service may request carry-out service at no additional cost. To enroll, call 510.262.7100. Medical certification of disability is required and must be renewed annually.

Free Household Hazardous Waste Disposal
It's illegal to put hazardous waste such as paint, pesticides, batteries, electronics, and fluorescent bulbs in the trash, recycling, and organics receptacles. Richmond residents can dispose of household hazardous waste conveniently and for free at either the West County Household Hazardous Waste Facility in Richmond or the El Cerrito Recycling Center.
Each visit is limited to no more than 15 gallons or 125 pounds of hazardous materials per vehicle. Disposal is quick and easy at these drive-through drop-off facilities—just bring a valid ID and/or proof of residency.
Free Mattress and Box Spring Drop-off
Residents of Richmond, Hercules, Pinole, San Pablo, El Cerrito and unincorporated communities are now eligible to bring three (3) mattresses per month to the West Contra Costa County Household Hazardous Waste Collection Facility at no cost. Please bring proper identification with proof of residency, or a utility bill with your address.

Free Compost for Residents
Every first Wednesday of the month, West County households can pick-up for free 2 cubic yards of compost from 9:00 AM – 4:00 PM at 101 Pittsburg Avenue, Richmond. Close the loop on your organics recycling by using the finished compost made right here in Richmond. This is self-service only; please bring your own bag, bin or bucket, and shovel to load the material. Valid identification is required.
