Summary
The Richmond Police Department is accepting applications for the Community Police Academy (CPA), which aims to educate, empower, and engage residents from within our community. This academy is another way for us to reach deeper into our community and forge an even stronger relationship that encompasses the core values of community policing. At the end of the 8-week academy, we will graduate a team of ambassadors who can share with other residents the internal workings of our organization and the philosophy and principles we are guided by. The graduates can empower residents and other stakeholders with lessons learned from the academy. This course is not designed to train residents to be police officers but to be ambassadors who embody the core values of the department and what is most important to community residents.
Curriculum
The academy will cover patrol/investigation procedures, force options, SWAT, K-9, traffic enforcement, crime prevention, crime scene investigations, Office of Professional Accountability, basic laws, and much more. Students will be required to attend a police ride-along with our officers and participate in all classes.
Requirements
Classes will be held at the Richmond Police Department, 1701 Regatta Blvd., on Thursday evenings from 6:00 PM to 8:30 PM and two Saturdays from 9:00 AM to 1:00 PM. Graduates will receive a certificate from the City and a badge pin designating them as ambassadors of our police department.
Space for this Community Police Academy is limited on a first-come, first-served basis. Applicants are required to pass a background investigation. If you are a Richmond resident, 16 years or older, and interested in learning more about our department, please click on the link below and fill out the application:
