Past Wildfire Prevention Measures
- The Fire Department, in collaboration with the Public Works Department, installed Fire Danger Today Signs at Station 63 and in the Point Richmond Area.
- The Fire Department met with the Public Works Department to create wildfire mitigation strategies.
- The Fire Prevention Services Division presented wildfire safety information to Neighborhood Councils.
- The Fire Department hosted an open house at Fire Station 63 in collaboration with the West Contra Costa Fire Safe Council.
Future Wildfire Prevention Measures
- Continue collaborating with Public Works on abatement and vegetation management.
- Designate a Wildland Inspector during Peak Season within the Fire Prevention Services Division.
- Update the Wildfire Safety and Prevention information on the City Website, particularly regarding home hardening and FireWise initiatives.
- Install Fire Danger Today Signs at:
- Station 68 District
- Wildcat Canyon - Alvarado Park Area
Annual Wildfire Prevention Measures
The Richmond Fire Department conducts the following measures annually:
- Wildland Urban Interface (WUI) Inspections
- Annual Fire Access Points and Fire Trail Surveys
- Provide recommendations and guidance to the Public Works Department based on the fire access point and trail surveys.
- Provide guidance to Public Works regarding vegetation management and abatement of City-Owned properties.
- Provide guidance to the public regarding Defensible Space Inspections (DSI) and wildfire prevention through mailers.
- Conduct more than 4000 Very High Fire Hazard Severity Zone (VHFHSZ) Inspections.
