Mendocino Park, Mendocino Park Pollinator Garden Group
On April 1st, 2023, 27 volunteers worked together to create a pollinator garden in Mendocino Park. They fixed the planting strips that had fallen into weedy disrepair and then planted colorful California native plants in its place. In the span of almost 100 hours, volunteers managed to fill over 21 bags of trash full of green waste, plant 220 seeds, dig up 1,000s of weeds, and even installed a bird house!

On September 24, 2022, 65 volunteers, all residents, picked up nearly 40 cubic yards of trash from the streets, creeks, and homeless encampments. Over 250 trash bags were filled, and 8,000 pounds of trash was removed! In partnership with SPAWNERS, SOS! Richmond, El Sobrante Public Library, and Richmond Park and Landscaping Division, neighbors tackled areas around District 4 with bags, safety vests, trash grabbers and bags to spread out across town and worked together collaboratively to make the streets a cleaner and safer place.
Panhandle Annex Pollinator Garden Restoration Project, Panhandle Annex Neighborhood Council
On November 15, 2022, volunteers focused on replanting native Californian plants along the sound wall of S. 55th Street. These pollinators, which are natives to the Panhandle Annex, provide hosts that are beneficial to the ecosystem. Volunteers also expanded the pollinator corridor and add curb strips as to improve the overall aesthetic of the neighborhoods. Their efforts revitalized 3 gardens, filled 10 bags of trash, and removed over 40 pounds of litter! Volunteers even included homeowners themselves, who wanted their streets to be a cleaner and prettier sight.

S. 16th St Little Library, Britnie Stuward
On October 15, 2022, 12 volunteers (children and adults), joined together to collect trash in the space between the streets and the sidewalk of S. 16th street. They also cleaned up and planted pollinator plants in the front lot. Afterwards, they installed a little free library, stocked it up with donated books. To make it more pretty, children painted over the box together. This little library addition is a great incentive that will encourage more kids to read and makes the neighborhood more distinctive. This six-hour project was a fun time for all and also made a big impact on the beauty of the street!
