Earth Day-Wellness Trail, Groundwork Richmond

On April 23, 2022, 38 volunteers met in the early morning to get to work on a long-anticipated project. The Wellness Trail is a bike and pedestrian trail that combines all key Richmond locations, its far reach and accessibility opening opportunity for residents to get fresh air and exercise. Along with this, the volunteers also wanted to increase the tree population in Richmond, as trees are not only great for the environment, but in providing clean, healthy air for all residents. Their goal was to plan 62 trees by the end of the month. In total, they managed to plant a whopping 59! In the project (which only took 4 hours), volunteers managed to fill and remove over 10 pounds/bags of trash and litter!

Of course, a big thank you to the projects partners who helped contribute to this new and much needed trail: Placeworks, Trust for Public Land, Gilotti Brothers construction, Target, City of Richmond, National Park Service

Richmond Museum Re-Opening Celebration, Richmond Museum of History

On June 25, 2022, six volunteers, in commemoration of the Richmond Museum reopening after COVID-19 closure, decided to clean up the Museum grounds and gardens. They repaired the seating area in the courtyard, and in total, picked up over five bags of trash waste, which ended up weighing over ten pounds. To rejoice in the opening, volunteers also created large banners and spread the word via social media, that promoted that the public institution was open to the public.

Willie Mays Day/Nicholl Park Ball Fields Clean Up, RPAL (Richmond Police Activities League)

On May 14, 2022, twenty-five volunteers arrived at Nicholl Park with a clear goal: Clean up Nicholl Park's Ball Fields. In the span of 100 hours, they managed to remove over 300 pounds of litter and fill up 15 bags of trash! That's not all they did, though. The full cleanup also involved: picking up trash, glass, pulling weeds, cleaning bleachers and dugouts. The results left the fields a much safer, and fun place for kids to play in!

A special thank you to all the other partners who helped make this project come true: Parks & Landscaping, Richmond PAL Ambassador Program, CSD Staff, Little League, Willie Mays committee members, and JR. Giants.
