Dig Out Base Repairs

Similar to Mill & Fill overlays, dig out base repairs provide a new asphalt layer which effectively restores ride quality, seals the surface, and improves the structural strength of the road. This rehabilitative treatment extends pavement life and reduces costly repairs. A dig out base repair occurs on any street which shows severely damaged asphalt, potholes, or signs of structural damage. Generally this treatment can extend the life of a section of road by 5 to 15 years. When this rehabilitation is combined with other repaving methods the extended lifespan can range from 10 to 20 years before further major rehabilitation is needed.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is a digout repair, and why is it necessary?

A digout repair involves removing and replacing sections of severely damaged asphalt to extend the life of a roadway without requiring full repaving.

How do I know if my street qualifies for digout repairs?

If only isolated areas of pavement have deep potholes, cracks, or structural damage, digout repairs are often used instead of full resurfacing.

Will digout repairs fix all the cracks and potholes on my street?

No, digout repairs target only the most deteriorated areas. Additional surface treatments like slurry seal or overlay may follow.

Why do some digout patches look different from the rest of the street?

New asphalt may appear darker than the surrounding road. Over time, it blends in due to wear and weathering.

How long do digout repairs typically last before additional resurfacing is needed?

Digout repairs can last several years, but the street may still require resurfacing within 5-10 years depending on traffic and weather conditions.

How long does the repair process take, and will my driveway access be impacted?

Most repairs take a few hours to a day. Residents are notified in advance if driveways will be temporarily blocked.
