The City Clerk is the Agent for Service of Process for all Departments for the City of Richmond. For proper service, all summons, as well as subpoenas for records and/or the appearance of employees for the Richmond Police Department, should be served in person, together with the appropriate fees, at:

About the Records Section

The Records Section is the central repository for all Richmond Police Department documents and electronic records.

Functions:

  • Traffic citations & misdemeanor reports (forwarded to court)
  • Felony reports (routed to Investigative Services)
  • Data entry into state and national criminal justice databases
  • Records support for El Cerrito Police Department
  • Assistance to internal staff, law enforcement agencies, and the public

The unit operates 24/7.
In-person customer service is available Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM to 7:00 PM

Live Scan Fingerprinting Requirements:

  • Valid photo ID (e.g., CA Driver’s License, State ID, Military ID, Green Card)
  • Request form from your employer or agency
  • By appointment only on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays
  • Contact our Records Unit at (510) 620-6675 to schedule a Live Scan appointment.

How to Request a Police Report

Before visiting, call to confirm whether your report is ready and eligible for release

Option 1: Records

Reports are usually available 7–10 business days after the incident.
Reports may NOT be released if:

  • The case is under active investigation
  • Releasing it may pose a danger to individuals involved
  • The report contains juvenile information (confidential)

Filing a Police Report at the Station

If you need to file a report in person, a Records Specialist will contact the Communications Center to have an officer respond.

  • Lobby reports are prioritized and dispatched as officers become available.
