Míocar is a revolutionary 100% electric vehicle (EV) carsharing service available in Richmond, Stockton and Tulare County. Miocar is available to anyone over 21 years of age with a valid US driver's license including AB 60 license, a relatively clean driving record, and a valid credit, debit, or prepaid card.

Electric Vehicle Carshare Program Details

1. How do you reserve a car? What is the price?

Míocar is a membership-based carsharing service providing 24/7 access to vehicles on an hourly or daily basis. As a member, you can book a car online at bookings.miocar.org or by downloading the Míocar Networks smartphone app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. The rates are as follows:

  • $20 one-time membership processing fee that gets given back to members in 5 free hours of driving credit for their first trip.

    1. 150 miles included, and anything after that is .35 per extra mile

2. Can I walk up to a counter and reserve a vehicle? Is there an office?

No, you do not need to go anywhere to reserve a vehicle and can do it from the comfort of your home. As a member, you can book a car online at bookings.miocar.org or by downloading the Míocar Networks smartphone app on the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

3. What if I want to take part in the program then months/years down the road want to remove the charging station from my lot?

Miocar will work with the property owner to change, remove, or upgrade any installed equipment on site.

4. How many people can ride in a vehicle?

As a Míocar member, you can drive the vehicle with other people in the vehicle. Miocar vehicles can comfortably seat anywhere between 4-5 people depending on the vehicle you reserve.

5. What happens if a vehicle breaks down?

Call us immediately at (510)319-2969. Once we know you are in a safe location, our Miocar team will try to troubleshoot your vehicle’s issues remotely. If the vehicle is not operational, we’ll provide you with roadside assistance or provide you with a new vehicle to continue your trip.

6. How did you select the vehicles used in the carshare program?

The vehicles we select for the carsharing fleet have some of the longest battery ranges on the market while also remaining within the grant budget.

7. Do you have any EV carsharing stations installed already?

8. What are the electrical requirements for charger installation?

For a hardwired AC Level 2 charging station, which is the primary type of charging station we use for EV carsharing:

  • Supply voltage: 240 VAC
  • Branch Circuit Break Rating (Amps): 40 A per charger
  • Approximate Charging Power: Up to 15.4 kW (two ports charging simultaneously)

9. What are your COVID-19 cleaning guidelines?

Your health and safety are very important to us. We will try our best to clean our vehicles after each trip, but we cannot guarantee that this will always be the case. We are taking the following steps to protect you:

We have placed CDC-recommended cleaning supplies in each vehicle for you to use at the beginning and end of your trip. We strongly urge that you wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) while using a Míocar and encourage you to bring your own cleaning supplies in case our supplies run out so that you can do a light cleaning of the vehicle at the start and end of your trip.

We will provide driving credit to any member who assists in a vehicle cleaning on a case-by-case basis (must be pre-approved by Míocar staff). We will take vehicles out of service to ensure adequate cleaning/sanitation once a week.

The following is a list of high-touch surface areas in the vehicles that according to industry guidelines should be cleaned at the end of each trip:

10. What does your maintenance/cleaning schedule look like?

Our Fleet Associate checks every vehicle that is in service at least once a week and ensures that each vehicle is disinfected with CDC-recommended cleaning supplies.

SITE HOSTING DETAILS

1. What are the benefits of potentially hosting an EV charger?

Benefits include:

  • Your (customers/clients/tenants) will see it as value added to the services they are already receiving.
  • Your reputation in the community will rise for being a hub for a meaningful service that makes the lives of their (customers/clients/tenants) better.
  • Hosting electric car sharing could foster better relationships with your (customers/clients/tenants), opening more opportunities.
  • You will be seen as leaders in the community and ambassadors for the program for hosting the electric vehicles.
  • You will be seen as leaders in the community for hosting a convenient service that lowers vehicle emissions, reduces pollution, and improves the air quality.
  • Hosting EV carsharing can advance your personal or corporate sustainability goals.

2. What is the cost to me, the property owner?

The Grant alongside other grant sources will provide funds to cover the cost of installation of EVSE for a Miocar EV carsharing host site. In general, the cost to install Electric Vehicle Supply Equipment(EVSE) and charging equipment to support electric vehicle charging varies depending on your current electrical service, the proposed location for charging, the number of charging stations and various other factors; however, the grant funds will cover all of these costs in most circumstances. The grant funds cannot pay for upgrades, equipment and infrastructure outside of the scope of establishing an EV carsharing station.

3. Do I have to purchase the vehicle?

Who is paying for the cars? No, you/your organization/agency/business does not have to purchase a vehicle to host a Miocar EV carsharing site.

4. Why do you want to put a car-sharing station here?

Project partners are seeking partnerships with property owners interested in hosting EV carsharing because the presence of EV carsharing will naturally enhance or add value to the services, mission, and or business operations of the carsharing host site.

Your site is located in an area identified as a potential station location by community members and/or stakeholders. We’re putting the carsharing stations in these neighborhoods because we have identified that this is where there’s the greatest need and the greatest promise for community members to feed their hopes, pursue their dreams, realize their potential, and achieve great things.

5. Who provides security and takes care of vandalism for the EV carsharing stations on the properties?

Miocar relies on property owners to keep an attentive eye on the stations and report any issues to Miocar and or the EVSE equipment provider. If station equipment or vehicles are damaged or defaced it is Miocar’s responsibility to remedy the damage.

6. Does the EV carsharing station have to be in a public parking lot? Can it be gated?

Stations can be in both public and private lots but not gated, to ensure that everyone in the area has access to the service.

7. How many parking spots do you want/need?

The number of carsharing parking spots depends on you. Our team will talk with you and take into consideration the parking lot capacity, but generally, Miocar EV carsharing stations have two to six stalls.

8. How much space does a charging station take up? Do they need to be visible from the street?

Charging stations don’t take up much space at all! They are about the size of a parking meter and usually located on the sidewalk near the front of a standard parking stall. A sign may be near the charging stations, which is also about the size of a parking meter. And, no, charging stations do not have to be visible from the street, but it helps if they are.

9. Who takes care of permitting?

Miocar and project partners will lead permitting and installation.

10. Who takes care of carsharing operations?

Miocar will manage the operations of the EV carsharing program.

11. Who pays for the electricity?

Miocar covers the cost of electricity for charging the vehicles.

12. Who takes care of the maintenance and cleaning of the vehicles?

Miocar staff clean and maintain all vehicles in the fleet.

13. Will there be a contract or agreement around this EV carsharing station?

Yes, you will have a detailed Memorandum of Understanding and/or site hosting agreement with Miocar that details the terms of hosting an EV carsharing station at your site, who will pay for electricity, who provides insurance coverage, and to what level, who takes care of O&M and many other details.

14. Can non-Miocar EVs use the charging equipment at the Miocar reserved stall(s), or are those stalls and the chargers reserved for Miocar vehicles?

Miocar charging stations and their corresponding parking stalls are reserved for Miocar vehicles only.

15. What if someone plugs in with their private EV?

The charging station will not initiate.
