Planning and Building Services

Responsibilities


  • Developing, maintaining, and implementing the General Plan.
  • Reviewing development projects for consistency and compliance with the General Plan, Zoning Ordinance, Subdivision Ordinance, California Environmental Quality Act (CEQA), and applicable building codes.
  • Developing planning policies and standards that promote a quality living and working environment throughout the city.
  • Supporting and providing technical planning assistance to the City Council, Planning Commission, Design Review Board, and the Historic Preservation Advisory Committee.
  • Assessing damage and expediting reconstruction throughout the city following catastrophic events such as an earthquakes, floods, or wildfires.

City Office Holiday Closure


As a reminder, Richmond City Hall and other programs and facilities, will be closed during the week between the Christmas holiday and the New Year’s holiday

(Tuesday December 24th through Wednesday, January 1st).



During this period, there will be a substantially reduced maintenance capability.  As always, City staff members will be available to respond to emergencies.
