Richmond-San Rafael Bridge Access Improvements
http://mtc.ca.gov/our-work/plans-projects/major-regional-projects/richmond-san-rafael-bridge-access-improvements
To reduce congestion on eastbound I-580, the Bay Area Toll Authority (BATA) is working to convert the bridge's right shoulder to a third freeway lane, and establish a bike/ped path on the north side of I-580, including the upper deck of the bridge. Both initiatives are designed to be four-year pilot projects.
Though the bridge improvements may be temporary, the bike/ped path on the north side of I-580 in Richmond will be permanent and will provide a connection to Pt Molate and EBRPD's bay trail extension.
